Lynton & Barnstaple Manning Wardle

The final result: YEO and EXE resplendent in their final Southern Railway livery. Painting and lining by the inestimable Ian Rathbone, weathering by the equally excellent Neil Podbery, final assembly by me. The figures are from a specially modelled set by Andrew C Stadden based on photographs of the actual crew members.

The models are the main feature in my book Finescale Locomotive Building, published August 2025 by Wild Swan Books.

760 EXE prior to painting and final assembly tasks

Earlier progress on two of the Manning Wardles. Built by hand from nickel silver and brass, with all details meticulously researched and reproduced.

A small batch of these very well loved and famous engines is now underway. This is my early stage CAD working drawing developed from original Manning Wardle drawings and research material obtained from L&B expert Stephen Phillips.

LNER K3

A model to 4mm scale of the LNER K3 class. Built from my own custom nickel silver etches, castings from my own patterns and hand made fittings.
